You are the ultimate gatekeeper.
You get to decide if you’re going to write that book that’s been nagging at your heart for years. And if you write it, you get to decide if that manuscript spends its life in the darkness of your drawer or in the light of publication. If you publish it, it’s up to you whether it languishes in oblivion or is promoted and shared in social media, and is pitched to traditional media.
It used to be that you had to get an agent to get access to publishers. It used to be that you had to get a traditional publisher to get your work into the world. It used to be that you needed a publicist to get your message in Media.
But it doesn’t work that way anymore. The truth is, the gates are open. So, I have to ask, what’s holding you back?
Because the words you anguish about writing could be the solution to someone else’s pain. The manuscript languishing on your desktop could be the answer to someone’s prayers. The book you hesitate to promote because you are uncomfortable “selling” could save someone’s life.
So stop hesitating.
Stop letting perfectionism and fear guide you. Stop being selfish. Yes, I said it. Selfishness is putting your fear ahead of your purpose. Someone needs your imperfect words, your flawed wisdom, your incomplete knowledge.
Your audience doesn’t need ALL the answers – they just need help.
And when you think of it that way, it’s a lot less intimidating don’t you think?
So, write. Speak up. Step into the spotlight.
What’s holding you back?
